In many of Piirto's delicate, pastel shaded oil paintings the people almost become one with their background; like ghosts they almost disappear only to captivatingly appear again with a second glance.

“Technically, I could explain how my paintings are born, but I cannot say, on what grounds I picked a variety of details of the paintings and how my topics are selected. Somehow, the subject choices have even my own childhood presented in them, but of course nothing comes from there directly.”
